“The Internet has fascinated me for as long as I can remember” – 5in10 with Valentina Golunova

Valentina Golunova is an Assistant Professor in Digital Democracy at Maastricht University. Her research lies at the intersection of platform regulation and fundamental rights. Valentina’s PhD thesis addressed the interplay between algorithmic content moderation, the regulation of digital services in the EU, and freedom of expression online. At the moment, Valentina is pursuing research projects on the legal approaches to countering disinformation and strategic litigation in the field of digital rights.

Reporting Corona

The seminar “Reporting Corona: State Media, Critical Journalism and Citizen Witnessing during the COVID-19 Outbreak in Wuhan” at the Institute of Chinese Studies at Heidelberg University, which I taught in the summer semester of 2021, explored the news and information production in locked-down Wuhan. It analysed the different types of reporting and writing, their motivations and their ways of coping with censorship.

أماني البداح (نائب المدير العام للبرامج والوظائف المساندة، مؤسّسة الكويت للتقدّم العلمي، الكويت). تقدّم هذه المساهمة نظرة أولية إلى حال الإنسانيات اليوم، حيث يتّخذ إنتاج المعرفة منعطفًا غير مسبوق في تاريخ البشرية. وقد رسمتُ الملامح العامّة لنقاشي في خطوتين: الأولى هي محاولة تحديد بعض السمات الرئيسة لإنتاج المعرفة في اللحظة التاريخية الحالية التي سأسمّيها التبادل الرقمي للمعلومات.
