Call for Applications: Three Ph.D. Studentships / One Postdoctoral Scholarship in Migration, China, and the Global Context Programme

The Max Weber Foundation and the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) are accepting applications for a new joint programme on Migration, China, and the Global Context. We seek outstanding candidates for three Ph.D. Studentships and one Postdoctoral Fellow.

Starting October 1, 2014, and based in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Hong Kong Baptist University, members of this joint programme are expected to collaborate with the chair of East Asian History at the University of Freiburg/Germany, member institutes of the Max Weber Foundation and with other partners of the Hong Kong Baptist University. Each of the three Studentships includes a monthly stipend of HK$20,000* for 36 months (Full Time) to cover HKBU tuition fees and living expenses. Fresh Ph.D. graduates are encouraged to apply for the Postdoctoral Scholarship (on one-year term and subject to renewal) covering salary and fringe benefits according to the candidate’s experience.

Application for the Postdoctoral ScholarshipInterested applicants from related social sciences and humanities disciplines are invited to apply by July 15, 2014. Candidates will be selected on the basis of the quality and fit of their proposals, potential for academic distinction, and experience working cross culturally. Email the following to soscugs@project.hkbu.edu.hk:
1. an academic CV
2. a description of a possible research project, including main research objectives (max. two pages)
3. a list of publications (if applicable)
4. full contact details of 3 referees
5. a cover letter explaining motivation in application for the post.

Application for the PhD programme
Interested applicants should possess either a master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree with first class honours from a recognized university or comparable institution. More information on the admission requirement is available here. Applicants should submit an application to the PhD programme with the Faculty of Social Sciences at HKBU via the online application system. In the application form, please select “Doctor of Philosophy – Sociology” in the question of ‘Degree sought”, and put “Migration, China, and Global Context” as your “field of study.” Please also put “Joint programme with Max Weber Foundation” under the “Additional Information” page.
