Vostokovedenie is the term for Oriental Studies in Russia and the Soviet Union. The conference will examine specific characteristics of Russian/Soviet/Post-Soviet notions of Vostokovedenie using a conceptual history perspective. It will also look at differences between this term and the Western concept of Oriental Studies. How did the relative geographical proximity affect Soviet/Russian perceptions of the orient?
Abstracts of proposals can be written in Russian or English and are to be submitted by March 31, 2015. You can find the CfP in its entirety here.
